We wanted to recover the money that we spent on car repair and car rental, so we filed a case in Small Claims court.

The Plaintiffs and Defendant met for pre-trial negotiation, but nothing could be resolved, so we headed for trial.

During that time, we realized that my PTSD symptoms were related to the accident.  That meant we would have significant additional costs for medical treatment.  The damages in a Small Claims case are too limited to cover what we thought our total expenditures would be, so we dropped the Small Claims case and filed a civil suit in Larimer County, Colorado.
